Cottage Pies Café – Home Baked Goodness in Pasir Ris
For a place as far-off as Pasir Ris, the Cottage Pies Café makes the
purposeful visit all worth it. This café brings wholesome country-styled pies
into a whole new light, mixing it with their traditional signature brewed
coffees. From New Zealand to Singapore, the owner ensures
that through his baking surprises, each pie and coffee combination are made to satisfy.
This sure breaks away from the current fast-paced Singapore lifestyle and it
sure feels like you’re doing it as the locals do.
The Cottage Pies Café is located at the Pasir Ris Central Street, just in front of the taxi bay area of the White Sands Shopping Centre. It’s not
difficult to see it, because it’s the only stall around the strip of fooderies
that transports back you to the old world, homey air. All the natural food
carvings and the pie displays make you feel at home all at once. The easiest
way to go here is via MRT and Taxi ride. It’s the last MRT (Pasir Ris) stop in
the Green Line and just less than
ten minutes of walking from there; taxi ride because it’s just in front of the
taxi stand of the mall.
Even without seeing the café around the area, the first thing that
you’ll notice is the scent of freshly baked pies calling you. Once you see the small
alfresco style coffee shop, aside from the pies and coffee menu, the
interesting wood letters and carvings around it would make you look a little
longer. The coffee and pie choices are pretty straightforward and any choice
here is good enough to order twice. The people you’ll see here are mostly
locals chilling, and a few travelers exploring the off beaten path of
Singapore.
Overall, although the Cottage Pies Café is a bit too small in floor area and can house maybe less than thirty visitors, the pies and coffees here can overcompensate for it. Being here on an unobtrusive weekend afternoon before heading towards some evening rumpus is just the right thing to do. I’ll definitely come back here for the chicken sausage rolls.
