Tokyo Skyline Silhouettes: Necessary Fascination for Japanese Buildings

Tokyo
Skyline Silhouettes
Exactly a year ago, I had undergone the whole
job search and offer process in Japan. Maybe it isn’t too
obvious, but I am THAT fascinated with the idea of what it’s like working and living in Japan as an expatriate. Like
you, probably, I am so enamored by the Japanese culture and the impression of
working with one of the most admired nations in the world. Besides, aren’t we
all charmed by the notion of working in
Japan without speaking Japanese?
Okay, it could be that’s just me, but truth is,
working as an expatriate in a multi-cultural country like Singapore, I had a taste of
what it’s like to be dealing and leading alongside different and opposite, and
I can vouch for the fact that Japanese people are one of the most truthful and
hardworking people on earth. Period. Hence, what’s
not to like, right?

There are a lot of employment opportunities in Japan; advantages that you’ll only be
able to get when you live and work in Japan (i.e. daily sushi,
sashimi, and takoyaki? Not to mention, 7/11 and Lawson food finds?). Even my Tokyonites and Yokohamamates are agreeing that living in Japan has a certain gradient of effect that’ll make you
value work. The inner workaholic in
everyone is rejoicing, for sure! Hahaha.
Well good thing is that Japan is increasingly opening
its workforce to the rest of the world! Foreigners are finding opportunities in career sites like LinkedIn, and even
though the process takes about six months, the whole challenge is worth the
time and effort spent. It’s worth a shot, especially if you are in the early
and mid-stages of your career and life, where you can still risk your life and
future for some unbelievable Japanese adventure. So many reasons, I am no
career coach, but one reason why? Here’s why: BUILDINGS.

Traveling to Tokyo makes you realize how
much this city and its skyline is distinctive compared to the rest of the
world. The stereotype of them being workaholic people kind of makes sense,
especially when you see how resolute, how well made, and how expansive these
mega structures are. It’s like seeing
NYC buildings on a bento box! If in Singapore, the buildings and
office spaces are ultra-modern and compact, in Japan, the buildings are a bit
old school, similar to how you’ll see it on Mangga books or Nihongo movies, but
with a different flare to it. Everything has its own story and history to
it.
Maybe you’d like to work in Japan someday, soon? Or maybe
you’re daydreaming about the possibility of being an anime character and living
that cosplay dream over there? Or maybe you just fancy the idea of getting a glimpse of what it’s like working
and being inside the office buildings in Japan daily? Well, whatever it
is, let’s just stop for a while and enjoy the mega-building exteriors that are
part and parcel of Japan’s unbelievable and admirable work ethics and culture.
