Underrated Landmarks That Are worth the Stopover

As Asians, we sometimes tend to scrimp on travel time and condense all the things we want to do in a city for only a few days. While I think there seems to be some kind of effective effect on this golden (Asian only?) rule, I believe that it should not be the case for certain cities, as is the case for Istanbul: It should take more than four to five days to visit and explore Istanbul. There are just a lot of fascinating places and hidden spaces worth reconnoitering, and some are even worth highlighting as amazing stopovers, even if it does not get the exposure and attention it deserves!

As travelers, we often want to default ourselves to experiencing the best or the top attractions of a place, and admittedly, oftentimes, we fall prey into the idea of visiting the touristy places or the ones that have been incessantly recommended as “the best”. But surprisingly, some of the most interesting and profoundly beautiful involvements can be obtained by underrated places and experiences. Sometimes, the most untapped destinations are teeming with the best experiences you can certainly recommend.

Istanbul straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait, which also reflects cultural influences of the many empires that once ruled here, is full of “unknown” beauties.  You’ll be astonished to find out that there A LOT of places here worth traveling around for, and you may even get lost in the beauty of it on the onset!  I have never seen such beautiful sunset experience like the one in Istanbul, which I believe is one of the best when it comes to savoring the sunset kiss in a colorfully busy city. A must try, yes! And so are the rest of these - here are the six of the (still many) undervalued places that you’ll have to check out!

Alman Çeşmesi Nerede (German Fountain)

Barbaros Hayrettin Pasa - Barbaros Aniti (Statue of Barbaros Hayrettin Pasa)

Nuruosmaniye Mosque

Obelisk of Theodosius

Galata Tower

Eminonu Waterfront
