Singapore’s Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle
Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle and Dragon Kiln
Living in
an increasingly multicultural city, I’ve learned to be a little less
stereotypical about the way things are, and become more accepting of how the
things turn out.
Case in point, my appreciation for all things Chinese. As horrible as it may
sound, because my (small) set of Chinese friends back home, I’ve learned to
tolerate the worst parts of Chinese folks. I’ve had my fair share of wanting
and hating for anything Chinese – food, people, culture.
And living in Singapore has eventually taught me a great deal of the appreciation for the Chinese culture. Like how I suddenly think the Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle and Dragon Kiln is a good experience to see when in Singapore.
This is an irreplaceable gem, a 70-year-old “dragon kiln” at Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle near Jurong. It’s just beside the Jurong East Eco-park, and from the looks of it, all the photo, history, and culture enthusiasts will enjoy this unconventional type of landmark. They offer Pottery Workshops from time to time, and you can actually choose from a wide variety of Chinese pots and ceramics. Even the National Heritage Board, SLA are fans of this place and encourages this traditional wood-firing and ceramics art.
So if you’re in Singapore for a bit longer, and you want to experience a different kind of SG vibe, one that is far from the city center, one that is unique, and one that can mold a newer perspective about the Chinese culture – visit Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle.
