Notting Hill and Portobello Road Market: Here's What It's Like
Notting Hill London: Bookshops, Markets, and Nostalgia
The white-washness and quaintness of the streets of Notting Hill and Portobello Road made me feel like I’ve lived here for a really long time. Nostalgic, feels at home, looks familiar. I’ve probably lived here a long time ago… as a bookshop owner. A the-place-looks-familiar-and-home kind of moment. Yes, suddenly I am Hugh Grant and William Thacker all in one. Haha!

Could hear the Notting Hill Movie soundtrack playing inside my head as I walk around the streets of NH, with a disheveled expression and a nonchalant attitude. For a second, I could have sworn Julia Roberts was standing in front of me, as a girl, asking…
Notting Hill is the ideal place to do some serious daydreaming escape from the city-clutches of London. If by any chance, I get to come back in London, I wouldn’t mind to stay at this side of the city for a couple of weeks. Yes, maybe London as a whole has lots of movie-inspired places to see; the 1999 Notting Hill Movie success is one for the books (and one for everyone’s travel bucketlist). There’s much locality and reality in what you can see in Notting Hill and the Portobello Road Market. There are lots of restaurants, pubs, bookshops, street markets, bars, and picturesque streets to see here. It’s not a perfect 10/10 place, but it’s an obvious reminder that imperfection has its niceness to it.

Scoured the place for THE bookshop of bookshops and some local coffee place to get our afternoon dose of midday time-out. Found ourselves missing out of the long rest part. Instead, we decided to kill our feet by walking around for hours and hours and hours, scouring every inch of the area, in search for more quaint teashops, happy hour pubs, vintage finds, and maybe an old CD of Notting Hill the movie?…
Ok... maybe it’s mostly to check out the different shades of streets and trinkets of cool and vintage items being sold at the street markets. Old sewing machines, graffiti arts, watches, scarves, and well-thumbed books look so cool as it is old school. Could easily buy tourist items and all things local here.
I’d recommend anyone who is into such travel idleness: go here and waste considerable amount of time to relax and enjoy Notting Hill. There are climaxes and story highlights that can be found in a place such as this, yes. The only thing missing in this Notting Hill reality is a nice Cadillac to drive around, and John Lennon to keep you company. Now if it’s you I’d ask, who would you like to keep you company in such a place as Notting Hill?
