Acropolis in Photos: When the Greek Gods Played Around Athens

When the Greek Gods Played Around Athens
When you hear about Greece, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?
No, not Santorini! No, not mythical creatures.
Yes, exactly. Gods and goddesses.
Think Hercules. Think Greek Mythology.
And because of all these powerful entities we learn when we were still in middle school, I kind of imagined Greece to be just like that. God-like features plus heavenly-places. It partially holds true, yes. But for the most part, it looks absolutely real and “everyday” just like any place and city you’ve all been to. Though, the closest real life place that seems like it came out of my imagination would be the Acropolis in Athens.
This ancient citadel, which is located on a high rocky outcrop above the city of Athens is where all the legendary structures of Greece are.
Think Parthenon. Think Temple of Athena. Think European Cultural Heritage.
Yes, you can find all of those in Acropolis and all the rest of the sanctuaries and temples that you may have read at one point in your school life, when you were studying World History.
Though, the gods and goddesses must have played around Athens for so long, because all you will see are faint remnants of the structures. You’ll mostly see ruins, meticulously being restored by the Greeks of today. They have a site plan of the Acropolis showing the major archaeological remains, such as the Old Temple of Athena, the Sanctuary of Zeus Polieus, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, and the Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus.
Europe is known to be one of the most precise when it comes to structure restorations, so the Acropolis is one of those places that you would one day look forward to be fully restored someday soon.
In fact, just a bit of some nerd talk: there’s actually a total of 2,675 tons of architectural members were restored already. Yes, we all appreciate a good cultural significance, and to have it fully restored is even better, for sure. Yes, nerd talk.
In the meantime, let your imagination work its way through these pictures of beautiful ruins. Next to tree photography, I’m digging these rock panoramas! You don’t need to get high; you just need to get stoned! LMAO #smartasshumor.
