The Bravery Café, Lavender

The Bravery Café at Horne Road
The Bravery
Café is fearless! Its café approach makes it an unlikely contender to
be one of the instant favorite coffee places in Jalan
Besar. But, in the very little time that it has been around, it managed to
create a strong name for itself – in fact, strong enough to make diverse group
of people visit the area, even when it’s quite obvious that there are no other nearby
hang out places to see. Yes, that’s quality you got there, and the Bravery café
makes it seem so easy.

Whatever the time of the day is, the most
convenient way to reach the Bravery Café is by taking a short walk starting
from the Lavender
MRT Station down in front of the shabby looking cafe façade. It’s a
good six-minute walk, and considering that this area is rather generous with
pedestrian walkways, it’s easy to reach this coffee house in no time. You won’t
easily notice the café, because the rest of the area looks like an abandoned
building, but just take notice of the flock of yuppie looking locals and expats
sitting outside the café, all with laptops, cups, and cigarettes.

Bravery Café’s concept is unconventional. The only
exaggeratedly striking thing about the experience is the coffee and food
choices that they offer. Everything else is kept at a bare minimum: high
unkempt-like walls, colorful light bulbs carelessly placed around the coffee
shop, thin plywood tables and mix and match chairs. It’s a daring
interpretation of hipster, quaint, or even cool, but in this case, it works to the
café’s advantage. The coffee and food choices get underscored so much so that
newcomers to this place become instant followers. Lavander Latte? Yes.
Signature hot Mocha? Absolutely, yes. The coffee taste here is one of the few
that I remember to want to come back for – really, really good.
So, if you’re still wondering how can a good café stand strong on its own without anything else to vouch for them, then you must hang out at the Bravery café. It’s all about their good coffee choices and everything else gets blurred out beautifully in the background. No wonder a lot of expats and young locals from all walks of life are seen in this coffee place – they know what they want in their coffee and they’re intrepid about getting it as much as they can.
