Memories at Old Ford Motor Factory
Memories at Old Ford Motor Factory
Even without doing much reviewing about this museum, always thought that the Old Ford Motor Factory is all about old Ford cars and cool vintage automobile collections. Thought I would see our first car being featured in it or something. Ha. I’m all for cars, but I’m all for history too. Of course, this iconic museum at Upper Bukit Timah Road used to be just that, but now it’s a whole lot more. One thing is of certainty though, the Old Ford Motor Factory is a must visit place if you want to know more about the historical war-side of Singapore.
Though there are three MRT stations (Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Clementi) close to the Old Ford Motor Factory, it’s still far off to visit this museum, compared to the others here in Singapore. From these MRT stations, you’ll still need to take a bus ride that will take about fifteen to twenty minutes from the MRT stop. It’s almost in the middle of nowhere, all you will see are mostly trees and a few bus stations around the area. The best time to go to this Motor Factory is during late afternoons because you’ll surely appreciate the whole pre-sunset setting around here.
For a place as old and as history-filled as the Old Ford Motor Factory, this Reflections and Memories of War Museum is one of the cleanest and clearest history hubs you’ll ever find in Singapore. The artifacts of narrations and exhibitions are emphasized in such an interesting approach; I couldn’t help but go thru each write-up one by one. And for a place that’s rather small, you can spend the whole half-day just going thru all the historical accounts found here. From the Talking Map found at the center of the exhibition gallery, down to the darkest details during the years of Singapore’s hardships are presented in a way that is not only enlightening but also unforgettable.
Singapore may still look young when it comes to its history, but this certainly doesn’t stop them from protecting, preserving, and creating new ones. As they continue to progress as a first world country, they don’t forget to look back at their humble beginnings, and take pride at those things – just like how the Old Ford Motor Factory is.
