Crossing the Quaibrücke in Zurich, Switzerland
Crossing the Quaibrücke
Last night, the TV series I was hooked up with showed some extra
awesome views from the San Fran Bridge. Right there and
then, I wanted to cross it. Yes, that good of a view. Have you ever thought
about it? Why do bridges have to look so tremendously ostentatious? Maybe, it’s
the incredible size and how it serves both as function and luxury to a place.
But what if it looks like the Quaibrücke?
A road bridge that has a different kind of incredibility – definitely, a must
do experience when in Zurich.
Positioned in Zurich between Bellevue
and Bürkliplatz,
this wide steel composite bridge is where all of the city’s transportation
action is. There’s a walkway for people who’d like to enjoy the leisure and
view of the city, and there’s a tramway for trams to go back and forth from
every direction around this bridge. The bridge is more on the short and stout
kind of passage – it doesn’t have any huge towering harnesses and upward steel
connections. Instead, its low keyed, decorated with simplistic stones, which I
think works well for its charm. The best way to go here is definitely by foot, during late afternoons when
dusk is slowly working its magic across area. It’s a postcard-ready kind of
scene.
Crossing the Quaibrücke is the utmost validation that you are
experiencing Zurich. The atmosphere is attractive from this standpoint, as I
see the different kinds of life moving around this busy bridge. Peeping down, I
see swans. Peeping forward, I see the most spectacular view of yachts,
churches, and bridges. Peeping in reverse, I see how Zurich defines busy – I
see cars, trams, and beautiful people nonchalantly walking, resting, eating,
and seeing the place too. It’s the easiest spot to enjoy real-time history
unfold right before thy eyes: people-watching.
There are different kinds of bridges that bring out different kinds of passions. For most, it’s adrenaline, or connection, or purpose, or luxury. For Quaibrücke, it’s more of a personal connection with Zurich. It’s a different kind of tremendous ostentatiousness, not in size, but in experience. It bridges people and the rest of Zurich’s beautiful sight together.
