Pique Nique Café in Jurong East

Pique Nique Café in Jurong East
I’m convinced that one of the good café finds in the West side of Singapore is Pique Nique. This American café’s concept of bringing the Central Park in NY “picnic feel” to life, through its array of dessert masterpiece, is an inspired move. It's snaking queue and superbly surreal ambiance instantly made an impression to our coffee-saturated cravings - we knew we just had to try it out.

Pique Nique is just at the first floor of the JCube Shopping Mall. It’s adjacent to Mc Donalds, and you can easily see the Jurong East MRT and Bus Interchange from inside the café. It’s even nearer to the entrance compared to the other coffee shops you can find inside this mall. The best time to go here is during afternoons, as the mood just effortlessly turns into a scene from that romantic comedy you last saw: quiet chaos, bathed in afternoon sunlight, and comfort-inducing sound trip. It’s the perfect backdrop for that simple siesta session.

Pique Nique has this classy picturesque feel to it. The hanging light bulbs and wooden chairs just look vivid, even without the rest of the interiors. And, what’s good is that in as much as they have diversity in the type of desserts they showcase, they also have diversity in the type of crowd you’ll see here – mostly couples, groups of friends, and expatriates. It’s a plus for me to see how these people just stay here for hours talking and talking; means, they enjoy the place that much. I think it’s because of the desserts, but it also probably is because of the rest of the Western food they have: mac & cheese, burgers, and all day breakfast. Of course, dessert picks are their macaroons, cupcakes, and whoppie pies. The best options to go with my coffee pick. Everything is reasonably priced – not going overboard that 20 SGD budget for the meals, and not going overboard that 10 SGD budget for the desserts and coffee.
It’s starting to become a little difficult to find budget friendly, yet overly beautiful cafes here in Singapore. Every new café discovery just starts to be more expensive than the prior. But luckily, Pique Nique proves to be part of that exception. Just like how I see Central Park, Pique Nique is the perfect venue for those big friendly gatherings and those old school simple relaxing 1:1 sessions with the closest people you have.
