Jamaica Blue Café - Caribbean Coffee in the City
Jamaica Blue is a mesh of Caribbean and Australian influences. In Jamaica, the saying "wan wan coco ful baskit" or “one one coco, full basket” is always inspiring people to slow down, stop rushing and take time to achieve their goal. As it turns out, this is what Jamaica Blue wants us to do in their coffee shops. They believe that through their fine coffees, everybody should take a little time out of their day to recharge, relax and reflect. To stop for a while. To simply enjoy the moment. We weren’t that familiar with Caribbean style so when we decided to give this one a try, we hit another jackpot – another coffee place worth recommending.
This is another good find in the Star Vista Mall, just within the Buona Vista MRT reach. It’s difficult not to notice this one, because it’s at a corner lot of the mall. Plus, the place looks like a restaurant you can find at somewhere near a bay front in Australia, it sure looks nice and clean. The best time to go here would be between lunchtime, until early dinner 'cos you’ll see the backdrop of lights and people gradually change over time. Awesome.
From Jamaica Blue Signature Blend, to Wallenford Estate Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee and Decaffeinated Organic Fairtrade Single-Origin Coffee, the coffee choices here are the true climax of this place. It’s distinctive and the intensity and flavors are very charismatic to the palette. And, the prices are not too steep, which is another plus point.
On the other hand, the interiors and interesting details found inside are not so much of a scene stopper, if you ask me. It’s not bad, but it’s not “too good to be true” either. I guess, this one is okay, considering that the food and the coffee choices are more than enough to take your imagination and coffee passion into a different level of happiness. This is probably the reason why there are so many young and yuppie locals , plus tourists flocking this place for long periods of time. You’ll see locals and expats, hanging out at this place, just to chill, maybe do some small gatherings over cups of coffees.
Knowing that this is one of the two branches in Singapore, and one of the few and well-chosen coffee houses across the globe, from Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, China, and Dubai, the Jamaica Blue makes a good introduction of Caribbean style of coffee to coffee lovers here in Singapore. Certainly worth coming back for the coffee itself.
