6 Best Online Travel Guides: Singapore

Though there are more than a handful of ways to learn and know about a new place, it certainly won’t hurt to master the basics. Often times, we forget the basics, because we get so engrossed in checking out the new ones and the next ones; and not because it’s easier that way, but because we think it’s cooler or more effective. Well, exploring Singapore has taught me that the best way is the basic way: through Singapore Travel Guides.

Although yes, there are several other things to check-out too (like blogs and books) I always start with these Singapore Travel Guides. In checking out the places to see, things to do, and events to attend to, these online travel guides prove to be more than helpful, especially to people who aren’t Singaporeans (read: travelers, expats, would-be locals). These are good online starting points in exploring Singapore for all its worth and these websites give a good introduction and characterization of Singapore.

This is the Official Singapore Tourism Website and it has always been my first choice in checking out new experiences to try out in Singapore: from Culture, Arts, Attractions, and Events. It’s very easy to navigate and get the information I need. The best thing about this online guide is that it feeds great ideas on planning a trip to Singapore – from Travelers Essentials, Tours and Guides, Transports, and even Flight Deals.

Time Out is available to almost all countries and now I understand why. The online space has a comprehensive capture of things to do in a specific country, and it includes events, restaurants, clubs, and music. For Time Out Singapore, it has become my first go-to place if I’m looking for some excellent information on what to do and things to see around town.

Do Singapore is where to find the best things to do and places to eat in Singapore without reading too much information – the pictures, maps, and convenient layout will do the talking themselves. This is very ingenious, because it looks straightforward, yet it’s complete too. It’s my go-to website if I’m in a hurry and I just need to facts fast.

This is one of the most recent favorites that has been part of my should-open website list when looking for our next Singapore travel gig. Just like most of the websites listed here, it also provides guides on lifestyle, food, and things to do in Singapore. The standout thing about this: the photographs. Who’s a sucker for good photographs? Me. This website offers not only new and brilliant content, but also superb photographs worth liking.

This online site is a mesh of information applicable for the Singapore newcomers and the loyalists. It provides information on how to get to know Singapore better (read: SG Survival Guide, Singapore Know-It-All), while at the same time it offers information that may be beneficial for the rest of Singapore crowd.

I include this here because on my first month here in Singapore, this served as my online Bible on almost everything – from food, trails, shopping, and highlights. It's easiest to understand this if you don't have any preconceived notions about Singapore because everything here is plain and simple. This Singapore guide is uncomplicated, easy to navigate around, and captures all the too-basic things that often get forgotten in other websites.
