Gardens by the Bay – Flower Dome
“Enter a world of perpetual spring, where unique plants bloom in
an ever changing display of flowers. Discover plants from the Mediterranean and
semi-arid subtropical regions. Now get ready to be amazed by nature.” – The way
their ad said it is absolutely right. The Flower Dome at the Gardens By the Bay is one of the greenest ways to learn and appreciate floras even more. It’s
no longer all about parks and gardens; manmade domes and architectural geniuses
are much better.

To get to this newest iconic dome, the nearest way is from the Bayfront MRT station, which connects Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay; there’s an indoor walkway connection headed
towards the Gardens by the Bay. From the entrance of the Gardens, it’s less
than ten minutes of walking towards this dome, which is actually the world’s largest column less greenhouse.

The indoor area is huge, in fact its floor area is approximately
2+ football fields; this serves as the playing field of diverse plants flown in
from different corners of the globe, grouped into themes, regions, and seasons.
From Baobabs, to Birds of Paradise, King Sugar Bush, Century Plant of Maguey,
Kangaroo Paws and Dragon Trees – yes, the list goes on. There’s a never-ending
list of interesting finds. You get to conveniently transport yourself into
different facets of floras without the need to become a scientist / indigenous
tribe / animal. Haha. I mean, the plant life found here are often found
infrequently, yet through the Flower dome, everything is within your eye’s
view.
The Californian Garden, because it’s the highest garden in the Flower Dome. It could easily pass as a “garden inside heaven”, because of the sunlit misty atmosphere here, with all the cool shrubs and out–of-this-world flowers and plants. Next is the Succulent Garden Seascape found around the entrance area of the Dome. It’s an under-the-sea panorama, minus the scuba gear. Indeed, the overall concept of the Flower Dome does not only exceed its capacity to generate people’s love for floras, but also it allows people to experience a uniquely positive relationship with the culture of nature.
