Gardens By The Bay - Cloud Forest
Gardens By The Bay - Cloud Forest
Maybe there has been a constellation of café posts here for quite some time already, and it’s about time to reach something else. Clouds, perhaps? The Cloud Forest, in the Gardens by the Bay, is another evidence of how much environmental awareness Singapore has. The concept of having a cloud forest in a city as modern as SG seems like a far cry from reality; but the genius in here just cannot be suppressed. The Cool-Moist Conservatory captures everything that is rare and seasonal about the natural fog forests, and it brings it into a whole new light.
Similar to the Flower Dome and the Marina Bay Sands, the Cloud Forest is just within the Marina Bay area. The easiest and most convenient route is still via the Bayfront Circle Line MRT Station, and you just follow the flock of people headed towards the Garden by the Bay. From the Garden’s entrance, the Cloud Forest is a good seven minute walk, and you need to get a ticket first before getting inside the conservatory. The best time to go here is weekday early mornings and late evenings, because other than these two schedules, the place can actually be over-packed with people.
With a total footprint size of approximately 1.5 football fields, the Cloud Forest is massive. Upon entering the Cloud Forest, you will be hugged by the cold misty atmosphere. You will be grazed by the generous spray of water from the manmade waterfalls just in front of the entrance. Just like everyone else who are so interested to get a snapshot with the sight to behold, you need not worry if you can’t take a good picture of the place. The better view is at the middle area of the conservatory.
Every floor is a new layer of diverse environment. From waterfalls, to planted walls, and mountain views, the Cloud Forrest is a concrete forest where dreams are made of. You’ll see so many attractive plants, from orchids, to ferns, bromeliads, begonias. There are some interesting finds too, like the carnivorous pitcher plants. Definitely a good place for the extended family, friends, and big groups who want to be closer to nature, with all the convenience of modernism. The overall impression of the experience you can get in the Cloud Forest is one of the few good ones worth remembering in Singapore. There are so many new additions to Singapore’s travel must-do, and it’s starting to become a problem to actually pick a good one – everything looks good! But, because of the quality of unique experience and learning you can get in the Cloud Forest, it should rightfully belong to that travel list of yours.
