Gastronomia Da Paolo – Gourmet Deli Café: Famed Cronuts in Singapore
In less than twenty four hours, I was caught red handed twice at this aristocratic Gourmet Deli Café. I’ve been eavesdropping thru Flipboard about the latest fad on Cronuts or Crodos. I’ve known this for quite a while now, but I never really took interest because I wasn’t aware it’s already here in Singapore. But as luck would put it, there’s an upscale café in Holland Village that sells this signature food offering. Even on a weekday after-office afternoon, we just had to go.
From the Circle line, alight the Holland Village MRT Station and it’s less than five minutes of walking from there. Just turn left heading outside before the big Old Chang Kee place and it’s the first street in front of the MRT station. It looks like a residential area because of the surrounding condominiums and HDBs, but the strip is more on food and selling. The café is near the other end of the street.
Even on an off hour, the bread and coffee selections are still attractive. No wonder this is the case because even the café itself is attractive. It’s a new concept store known to Singapore: with new added seats, warm lighting and wood finishes – the place doesn’t invite any unpleasant feeling overall. The food compliments well with the rest of the overall design, with creative black, gray, and metal inflections.
The food is one thing, with all the chocolates, pasta, pizza, cronuts, and the rest of bread-coffee combinations. By the way, I urge you to try the crodo that has a version lightly dusted with sugar and another glazed with bittersweet chocolate - an absolute perfection. Nonetheless, the one favorite that should be given emphasis too are the people running the place. They are as warm and accommodating as their coffee wins. Indeed, their hospitality and recommendations brought us into a whole new elevated Gastronomia experience.
