Singapore Photo Essay: Singapore Homes
Since I moved here in Singapore, I can’t help myself to not take pictures of the structures here. It’s not that we don’t have these back home, but it’s interesting to comprehend that these buildings are where most Singaporeans live. Their HDBs, which are essentially the residential homes of majority of the people, are inside these tall buildings, and I sometimes wonder how is it like to live in such conditions for most of your life. I don’t know about you, but I grew up in a house with a garden, a porch, and an area where I can play with my dogs and just mess around, without worrying too much about the neighbors. I grew up in a “normal” type of environment, with neighbors whom I can play with outside the streets, with this and that and everything else.
Amazing thing is, when you get exposed to different cultures for a longer period of time, your understanding of things become a little bit more accepting and patient to uncustomary things. It’s not about comparing the houses, but more on understanding each side of it. Just like living here in Singapore, this way of life here may seem unconventional or exceptional, but the more importantly, it’s not the house that matters but the home that is being built within.
