The Group Therapy Cafe - A Favorite Coffee Place in
Duxton Road
Finally, after the week long life-threatening
haze that hit Singapore, we knew it’s just time for some weekend therapy: The Group Therapy in Duxton Road, that is.
As soon as the air smelled a little healthier than it is, my troop and I hit
Duxton Road around Tanjong Pagar to find our idiosyncratic idea of a coffee
that is Group Therapy.
From the nearest MRT station, it is
easy to reach the street where the Group Therapy is located. Although once in
the street, it’s a little bit tricky to find it, ‘cos it’s at the second floor
of a vintage looking residential apartment – which is of course, a commercial
space. Yes, that ingenious. It’s hidden in a small black door with a grassy
walkway leading upstairs.
The place is heaving with local
young bloods talking about current issues and brilliant ideas. It’s always a
different to be at one with the locals through cups of coffee and heaps of
conversations – places like this one is just great for this reason. The
atmosphere inside gives a western classic postcard feel to it. This adjunct
café is also versatile in the sense that unlike the normal commercialized cafes
around town, this one can be rented out into a space for lifestyle workshops,
private parties, and corporate events. Indeed, the Group Therapy cafe has that
character and charm that becomes a common focal point for people to connect and
enjoy.
It’s not just in the name, or the badge of honor given by travel bloggers and travel sites and magazines that make this café a landmark for people. Of course, it also has to do with the quality food and drinks it serves. From Sunday Brunch to All-Day Breakfast, of course its bound to be good. Their specialty coffees are my new favorites for now. The Caramel Cappuccino had the perfect balance of froth, caramel tinge, and coffee kick; better than the ones that can be found in the commercial cafes. Yes, haze or no haze, the Group Therapy is a must go.
