Swee Hin Restaurant in Queenstown

Would have to admit that sometimes it’s hard to want to go for Hawker food simply because it may look substandard at times. Yes, that’s too stereotypical knowing that I advocate anything budget friendly. But, if you live-breathe-sleep hawker food on a per-second basis, you’re bound to get bored.

But also, would have to admit that over the course of my stay here in Singapore, there are more than a handful of exceptions to this stereotype. Singapore has proven that there are Hawker foods that are worth the visit, worth the favorite, unworthy of the prize (because it should have been prized higher!). Swee Hin Restaurant in Commonwealth area is certainly one of those excellent exceptions.

It’s a five to ten minute slow walk to this place. From Bus Stop: 11439, Blk 92. Bus Service Numbers: 195. Or from Commonwealth MRT Station, Exit B, it’s in the middle of a few parking lot and near a local church. No need to go all fancy pans because the place is very hawker-homey-casual with an open-area kind of place. The line is ALWAYS longer than normal so it’s best to go early and know what to order immediately, so that when it’s your time to get seated, it’ll be quicker.

What to order here at Swee Hin Restaurant? Got enough money to order everything? But, I’d go for the Butter Pork Rib and the Bihon anytime. They taste so like it’s a rip off a five star restaurant – so good. Also, go for the Iced Coffee, of course, that’s a given if you’re a coffee follower. I think its one and a half teaspoon better than your normal hawker iced coffee.  Overall, it’s a very pleasant foodgasmic experience that makes you break your stereotype about hawker food.
