Give a Free Reign to the Gundam Cafe, Tokyo
Gundam Cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo
Let’s stay away from the slightly pretentious
knowledge that I have about Japan and actually share with you some valuable
info: this cool café along the streets of Akihabara, Central Tokyo. Yes, you know how
much I instigated my adoration for all things Japan after our recent trip
there. Here’s another reminder of that.
Before we even went to Japan, this one was part of the mandatories. Even if we were totally oblivious of the “why” and “what about” of this place, we just concluded it’s a must visit. Yes, it’s a pleasant surprise. Even if we know that Japan itself is one big expected surprise, the Gundam café experience is one of those things about Tokyo that you’ll surprisingly remember.
Even from the corner street, you can
immediately notice the long queue of people, tourists, and locals, eagerly
waiting to dine in. Although the façade looks good, I’d say it’s not as good as
the overall structure inside.
Once you’re inside, you’re actually going to forget about the food itself, not unless you’re desperately hungry, because there is so much to see. Gundam fighters, Gundam models, almost everything you like and know about Gundam may be seen inside – too many actually, it could even pass as a Gundam store cum Gundam Museum. Well, you can buy Gundam toys too.
Sure, we know that 99% of Japanese food is good compared to others, however, what makes the food here fascinating is, of course, their creative spin on it. It’s not the taste per se, but the Gundam carrots, pasta, and all those other trinkets, its how they prepared and made the food look cyber-good. Everything is masculine, techno-inspired, and of Japan quality. Overall, I’d say that the experience here is hyped for a very valid reason – no regret, only must try!
