Toa Payoh Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery
Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery in Toa Payoh
And we are back in Singapore for some scouring. By scouring I don’t mean, the ugly and tireless hunt for all its worth. I mean, finding what else can we find here in this small dot we call home: Singapura. It’s interesting because it’s been a little over a year and yet there are still so many things to discover here in Singapore. Surprising? They still are constantly finding new ways to innovate and make everything here conducive and competitive as a nation. #FirstWorldProblems
They are not failing at all – everything is still managed well. Clean. Crisp. Concise. One interesting find is this charming temple somewhere down the red line: the Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery in Toa Payoh. It's an old one but it doesn't look like it. Surprisingly, it’s not so much of a tourist place, even if most of the temples here in Singapore are tourist friendly.
Here it’s interesting and different. It’s really a place of veneration and worship. You’ll see and feel the heritage and Singapore culture in every zip of this place. The sculptures are quite surprising too as they look “mad” in a way as compared to the normal sculptures we see. Is it intended to look like that? Maybe. Or maybe I’m being stared down at for taking so much pictures.

The highlight is really what’s inside the temple walls. There’s this monumental Buddha statue sitting, with incense wisps slowly blowing in front. It just sits there, waiting for the whole world to take part in the reverence and discovery that it deserves. Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery in Toa Payoh is a special place, not just for people with a Buddhist faith but also to everyone else who would want to see the clean, crisp, and clear heritage and faith of Singapore.
