The War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City

Almost all Asian countries have this type of showcase. War, remains, history. In Vietnam, they have built a whole museum for this commemoration and reminder - that there is both pain and triumph in war. They coined it as the War Remnants Museum. Travel to Vietnam and you’ll see the Nha Trung Bay Toi Ac Chien Tranh.

Just like almost any landmark in Ho Chi Minh, the best way to reach this is by foot. It’s quite easy to find actually. Follow the internet map trail or the guide available at the airport. The maps are free so be sure to get one. Once you reach the place, the first thing that you’ll notice are the enormous life size tanks, real ancient bombs, and war planes strategically scattered around the entrance area of the museum. Like a peaceful Pearl Harbor moment.

Every floor you enter in the War Remnants Museum will be about pain and wanting to alleviate the pain of these Vietnamese victims. It adds to your maturity and understanding towards history and culture. You’ll see different iconic photographs of Vietnam and its struggle, success, and transformation. You’ll see different artifacts from the war, be it riffles, uniforms, mementos, and prison cells. You’ll see pain but more importantly, you’ll see hope. It’s a success story amidst the sorrow.

Personal favorite would be the olden preserved war vehicles outside the museum. Everything has been preserved to precision. Don’t forget to go at the top most floor of the museum where you’ll find one of the most amazing photo galleries about war. Also, don’t hesitate to enter the rugged gallery beside the museum where you’ll find a quick run through of how everything has been – such an eye-opener. Be sure to find time to spend your day to really understand the place so that you won’t leave the place in a sorrowful state. Appreciate and amass information. Wow Warfare!
