Add To Your Bucket List: Lost - Bemused - Discovered in Japan
Getting Lost in Japan is Good
The feeling of being lost in translation is quite a quirk. It feels funny and bad and exciting all at once. The very process is a redeeming moment. Helps you appreciate and empathize on the idea of finding out about things no matter how “lost” it may seem.Want to be in a lost-in-translation euphoria? Japan is the answer. Go to Japan! Say Konichiwa to Japan face to face! Do the Tokyo drift! Have a High Five with a Geisha! Wrestle with a Summo Wrestler! It’s THE ultimate place to be if you want to get swiped away by lavish complexities and expertise. And even newfound things to come across.
Finally, after millennia moments of daydreaming, one big check is now in place. JAPAN. Who would have thought? I sure didn’t. But, Japan is just too good of a place to miss out. We were lucky enough to catch a promo plane ticket to Tokyo. We didn’t think for a millisecond. We were all excited and looking forward to see the land of the rising sun.
And we sure entered Japan like a ninja. Quiet. Observant. Strategic. First word that came out of my mouth: WOW. I was at a loss for words. My eyes did the talking. Ogling. Staring. Every single minute detail about Japan is gorgeous.
Even if you don’t speak their language, the universal feeling of appreciation and respect will overwhelm your insides. Of course the landscape and cityscape perfection are a given, but what made Japan special even more are the “at a loss” moments of happiness, adventure, and discovery.
So many tips and tricks of the trade to unravel, all thanks to this trip. Even if we did our homework and prepared like crazy, we still got lost. And it was “for the good of mankind” feeling. Pure bliss. Pure happiness through:
- their intricate writing system, which is just the tip of the creative nuclear masterpiece that is Japan.
- their food that’s just made to perfection. Ramen – ramen – more ramen. I could finally say to myself that I can eat ramen all day. Plus sushi. Plus takoyaki. Plus so many pluses.
- their transportation system that’s just very hard to comprehend and better to just stare (‘cos it’s that awesome).
- their people who are just the friendliest and most respectful bunch you will ever find here in Asia. Would literally go out of their way to help you out, even if you just show the slightest hint of confusion.
Overall, one of the greatest places to visit in Asia is Japan. Whether a budget traveler or not, this country’s worth every centavo you skimp on. So many translations and admirations, yet Japan is truly one of a kind.
