Wayang Museum in Jakarta City, A Puppet Museum
So maybe there’s something more intricate and artistic than the water puppets. That would have to be shadow puppets. Shadow puppetry has actually been here for so long, even prehistoric times where instead of puppets, people used hands to show shadows. You probably did this before when you were kids, doing hand shadows when the lights were out. Haha. But, if you travel in Indonesia, you’ll see how they took this art to the next level. Everything can be seen at the famous Wayang Museum.+copy.jpg)

It’s a puppet museum, where you’ll find all sorts of creepy, crazy, creative puppets to buy and see. It’s mostly puppets for children, so be sure to bring the inner child in you so as to fully understand and appreciate these things. It’s located at one of the busiest tourist infested places of Jakarta. You’ll never miss this since almost all locals know where to find this. Just ask Wayang Museum and they’ll know.

Once you enter the place, you’ll see different kinds of shadow puppets. Indonesian puppets are so distinctive and expressive (some are even scary). You’ll see Balinese puppets, black light puppets, Javanese (not the rice!) puppets, and all sorts of educational puppets. Wayang art are all over the place too - in a good way of course. Wayang art speaks so much about Indonesian history and appreciation for shadow puppetry.

A trip to Indonesia would not have been complete if I didn’t visit Wayang Museum. Puppets and travel don’t exactly mesh together as something life changing or cool, but on this context it made sense. The Wayang art and shadow puppets were engaging enough to bring you to a different realm of travel understanding and appreciation. Be sure to travel to Indonesia to find these shadows.
