Feel the Wonder in the Martyr's Shrine, Taipei City, Taiwan
Taipei will be a personal fond memory for having incurred the craziest and funniest mishaps in travel history. But to be fair, not only did I have my share of disasters, I also had some hits. Like the Martyrs’ Shrine for example.
This has been on top of our priority itinerary, yet we managed to wander here on our last day. Tough luck? Maybe, but more like plain crazy disasters. Fortunately, the good zen vibes aligned and the blessings from Confucius, Mencius, Lau Tze were with us. We were still able to visit the place.
And this holy place is holy nice. There are so many shrines and temples and huge areas here in Taiwan, but this one’s one of my personal favorite. See why? The place is remarkable! This place was built to commemorate heroism of Taiwanese war soldiers. Solemn yes, scary no. The place is huge, with quiet corners to help you reflect and appreciate the valor and honor brought by these unforgotten soldiers.
The front gate, entrance building, main shrine, and pavilions are all embroidered with Chinese intricate styles. Very ancient and attractive. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll even smell some Chinese incense while praying and paying homage to their rituals. Actually, even the landscape and placing of each temple has been smartly put, which is interesting. They are just right next to each other, situated at the center of the area.
But the highlight would have to be the ceremonies and marches led by the guards at certain periods each day. They would just march forward and demonstrate how dedication and excellence is done. Makes you appreciate the value of life lived to the fullest – if done with honor and dedication, you leave a legacy, just like these martyrs. So leave not Taiwan without paying homage to this place of commemoration. You commemorate life adventures, and cultural shrines and temples, through the help of these unsung heroes.
