Mekong Delta - An Experience of a Lifetime

Visiting Vietnam won’t be entirely complete without gaining some Mekong River adventure. This tops all other river ride experiences in Asia for three good facts: 1.) The Mekong River is the 12th longest river in the world, and runs through China's Yunnan province, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Talk about all encompassing, right? 2.) The Mekong Delta, which is part of the river found in Vietnam is one of the busiest among all other areas within Asia. Hence, you are guaranteed to discover so many things, old and new, from this delta. 3.) This area has been dubbed as a 'biological treasure trove', because over 10,000 new species have been discovered here. Life and adventure, you got that right.

Even without the history and culture to back this river, the geography alone speaks so much about the Mekong Delta. The variety of splendid landscapes, mountains, greeneries, and water life are just a sight worth acknowledging.

The people and way of life makes all the difference. Their hospitable and hopeful demeanor makes you want to stay longer and learn their ways. Best thing here is that these Vietnamese folks allow tourists to try their river pride. For a couple of cheap money, you can already have a Vietnamese guide to tour you around the delta, in a very small wooden boat and their Non Quai Thao, which is their hand made authentic and beautiful Vietnamese hats.

The river ride is indeed a local adventure in itself. To start off, the vigorous faunas and chocolate colored river will greet you with open arms as your boat traverse through the delta passages. The Vietnamese guides, rowing and smiling, and telling Vietnamese folk stories, show how much admiration they have for their situation, culture, and country. Experience worth having: An afternoon drizzle in the middle of the Mekong delta. The raindrops gently slipping under the Mekong Delta river bed looks attractive. Makes you see that despite the simplicity of the whole thing, everything is perfect.

There are a lot of short stops in between the river ride. Different towns and villages with diverse things to offer: from honeys, to local food, history telling, and candy makings, everything is a learning experience. The adventure will definitely not end even after the Mekong Delta boat ride. The feeling and understanding about Vietnam, yourself, and life as a whole, will change you in so many ways. It will make you look forward to experience more Mekong Deltas of the world, and maybe some afternoon drizzle experiences that come with it.
