Well then, it’s time to face the inevitable. While we all know that there’s an abundance of cafes and bars around the city, it’s still quite hard to finally decide where to meet and catch up with your close ones. And more often than not, even our planned hangout times with people ends up as a work-related ranting session, instead of just talking about life and the good side of it.

Especially in these recent times, we all just want to meet up and chill out and enjoy each other’s company, without talking too much about the things that mentally stress us. If you feel up to it, you can play DJ for a while and spin some discs at Choice Cuts. From time to time, the cafe bar hosts events and has sessions featuring professional DJs. The place is not very big but it does offer quite a good selection. For example, plenty of greens for healthy eaters, pizza made upon order, paella, the all-time-favourite rosti counter, savoury and sweet crepes, grilled meats and seafood, soups, oysters, cakes, drinks etc. Being market style concept, just bring the Marché card issued upon entrance to the food stall that you are interested in. He was elated when we told him the plan to visit one of the best xiao long bao and pan-fried dumplings – Jing Hua Xiao Chi 京华小吃. When The Social Space first opened up shop at Kreta Ayer Road last year, we were in for a treat. Here was a multi-concept store that not only gave us chic goods that advocated for a socially-conscious and eco-friendly lifestyle, it also housed a cozy cafe and a nail salon nook for manis and pedis. So upon hearing the brand was expanding with a second, larger branch at Marina One, we just had to swing by and check it out. Bright and airy, with an abundance of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows, the new outlet is kitted out with natural and recycled decor elements. We were half-expecting an ornate Italian country-side decor, perhaps with checked table cloths, when we visited this new Italian restaurant at Mohamed Sultan Road recently. It turned out to be much less rustic than we anticipated. Rather than rustic, it was a simply furnished Italian restaurant. The matcha milk shake was smooth, creamy and slightly fragrant. It had a distinct, aroma of vanilla ice cream. You could taste a lingering flavour of matcha, but it was quickly overpowered by the creamy ice cream. It's a pretty big portion for $5.50.
