Hello itchy feet friends! Glad to welcome you to Polaria! You have arrived here because you are like me = quite interested and excited to explore the nonstop energy boosted by this wonderful place known as the world’s most northerly aquarium. This Tromso-situated scientific aquarium is certainly not to be missed, no matter what kind of weather Norway is showcasing. The adrenaline rush of being able to visit this educational haven, despite the festive-like blanket of snow across this northern city of Norway, is something that my sleepless friends and I wanted to see and do when we were in Norway. We had two options actually: to stay in the café we were at and just chill like a pill, or just walk towards Polaria with the chilly weather that day. Just a five-minute walk from the Tromso City Center, you’ll see this distinctive falling domino kind of building that represents ice floes that been pressed up on land by the rough Arctic Sea. Inside the aquarium, there’s a souvenir shop a café resto, a cinema, and of course, knowledge-based interactive exhibits and the main thing aquatic animals. In their cinema, the Ivo Caprino film "Svalbard - Arctic Wilderness" and the Ole C. Salomonsen production "Northern Lights in Arctic Norway" is being played, which makes you want to go pack up, go out of the aquarium, and straight to the mountains to see the Northern Lights. Lol. What I liked the most though, aside from the fact that the place is fully packed with scholastic stuff about how the ice is melting in the Arctic, what really makes it interesting is that Polaria shows how researchers work in these areas. It can tickle your inner desire to be a National Geographic explorer, whether you like it or not! (So... in these photos below, who did it better? Hahaha!)

Starfish, crabs, and almost all the cold-immune sea creatures can be seen here, but the ultimate star that needs to be seen here are the bearded seals. This arctic species are the protagonist of Polaria because of its quiet, intelligent, and sometimes playful nature. There’s an open area where you can see them and touch the waters, and there’s also an enclosed glass zone where you can watch them zoom in and out of the picture. I liked this area more because the bearded seals are more responsive here! They will even interact as if they are playing with you when you tap the glass and act all silly. It’s a one-stop shop, really. Once you finish checking out this 1 – 2-hour place, including the exhibits and interesting corners, you can also drop by the Polaria shop for some souvenirs of local crafts, books, toys, and of course, more Northern Lights products. Even if you are not a fan of museums or aquariums because you may think it might be too uninteresting, I believe next to the Singapore S.E.A. Aquarium, it is the largest aquarium in the world, the Polaria is one of the best you’ll ever see, so better go and experience it when you visit Tromso, Norway.
