The selection of drinks was interesting. Think Red Velvet Hot Chocolate ($5.50), Chai Steamer ($5.50), Orange Hot Chocolate ($5.50), Yuzu Mojito Mocktail ($6.50) and Peanut Butter Jelly Mocktail ($8). The Red Velvet Hot Chocolate ($5.50) was at least smooth, chocolatey, and of course ‘photogenically –chio’! Read full review at: http://danielfooddiary.com/2016/12/10/brothersinfinefood/

In terms of culinary range, the restaurant tries to sell food that is reminiscent of the 1930s, mostly Anglo-Chinese, Hainanese food and local favourites. They stay true to the authentic traditional taste by making minor adjustments, serving the Nanyang curry in a bread bowl or adding a Hainanese sauce to a Western pork loin. Very simple tweaks that produced amazing results in terms of flavour. Read full review at: https://sethlui.com/1933-singapore-restaurant-review/

The sweet items were much, much better.  We believe this was primarily because no heating up or preparation was required. Served straight out of the chiller, they tasted as good as they looked. The salted caramel in particular had a nice blend of sweety-saltiness. If we had known this we would have all just eaten doughnuts that day! The Yuzu Latte (SGD $6.50) is unique for having the zest of the yuzu fruit in the coffee, infusing it with a light sweet fruity citrus flavour. Nicely layered, you still get the deep notes of the coffee beneath. Good! Read full review at: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2017/07/boyles-coffee.html

Thankfully, they chose the right cake and pastry supplier, Fathis, who apparently supplies to many cafes (i can't be sure of that) but anyhoo, i was thoroughly impressed with their moist and chunky banana walnut bread with a dollop of of cream cheese frosting. Other cakes available include a Salted Caramel Popcorn and Blueberry Cheesecake, and they look really hearty! We love the natural lighting of the whole cafe, where we chose the long counter table by the window. There are other more comfortable seats around, primarily used to showcase the furniture the stall is selling at the same time. We chose the special blend Latte Gula with caramelised sugar ($5.00) and the French Chocolate ($4.50), both iced. The Latte Gula is an interesting blend with subtle hints of gula melaka; suitable for people who love sweeter version of coffee. Do not be fooled by its seemingly self-designed logo and signboard. The name itself is quite a character. The atmosphere is relaxed and the feel is casual and friendly. Though I Am establishes itself as a Halal European-Inspired Cafe, we really thought it was more like a bistro or casual eatery. By 12.30pm, there was already a long queue of customers. Read full review at: https://www.springtomorrow.com/i-am-cafe-haji-lane/

Far too often, new restaurants and cafes in Singapore disappoint me. Most often, I leave upset because I’ve been overcharged for mediocre food that may look okay but usually lacks flavour. I also leave perplexed because so many of these places are able to fill their seats, night after night, with (young) customers whose expectations must simply be lower than mine. So, I was thrilled recently to discover a new place (in my own neighbourhood no less) that offers simple, tasty, well-cooked dishes and pretty awesome pastry at sensible prices. Situated beside Seletar Airport and on the first level of MAJ Aviation Building at Seletar Aerospace, Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe's location is definitely one of the most ulu cafes that we have been to. But trust me when I say that the experience of sipping coffee while watching private take off and land along the Seletar Airport runway is pretty special. The first thing you’ll notice is the décor. As it’s a joint space with a floral boutique, Dawn Q, fresh blooms line one half of the space, where the florists are busy creating stunning floral arrangements. On the opposite side, are the baristas, serving up a variety of coffee, whether classic espresso-based cuppas, or syphon or nitrogen-infused cold brews on tap. Beer-o-holics – take note that sitting pretty next to the nitro cold brew on tap, is the Moon Dog Love on tap ($15/pint). Bottled beers include Brewdog Dead Pony Club ($12) and Great White Hype IPA ($14). Read full review at: http://thedivaeatsprata.com/stamping-ground-coffee/

A few weeks back, I was able to meet with the owners of a coffee shop/restaurant called Sumo Dog in Lavender, Singapore. Sumo Dog specializes in Japanese dishes, especially in hot dogs on buns, and thus their logo. The owners, Aubrey and Nora, were very approachable and quite hands-on about everything about the business, and I love that about them. Decor & Ambience: Extremely lovely. It had a post-apocalyptic feel with brick walls and cement and vines creeping on the wall, like Nature reclaiming its space. Mini ladders hanged across the beams. A true blue hipster cafe, playing music from Cat Power, Coldplay (before they sold out), The Smiths, Depeche Mode, The Cures, etc. Read full review at: https://rubbisheatrubbishgrow.com/2014/07/09/sunday-market-cafe-singapore/

Populus turns out to be a collaboration effort by Department of Caffeine and 2Degrees North Coffee Co. I forgot to ask (too hungry to think of much else) what the coffee blend was for my Caffè Latte ($5.50), but it was full-bodied, rather smooth with a pleasant hint of smokey finish. I like it.
