Ben Tanh Market in Ho Chi Minh

As a first timer in a new city, just like my comrade who happens to be a Saigon freshman, he wanted to explore the famous Ben Tanh Market. Apparently in Asia, every city has their own version of mercantile moments where shopping markets and bargain hunts are always therapeutic and exciting. It sure is true in Manila, Singapore, and even in Ho Chi Minh.

This is the exact equivalent of the Chatuchak Market in Bangkok, Thailand, where unimaginable shopping spree can be seen and snatched. Yet, unlike the one in Bangkok, the Ben Tanh Market is cleaner, cooler, and more culture-focused. There are a lot of Vietnamese souvenirs, shirts, items, and foods that can be found inside the market. Prepare to haggle like a maven – best tip: always haggle 50% below the given price.

This is also the place where to find all the “original” made in Vietnam Northface items – bags, jackets, you name it, they have it. It’s crazy how the people get crazier when they see these originals and how they would buy the whole shop full of these items. I scored maybe ten pieces when I visited!  Saigon freshman or what, but the Ben Tanh Market is your (Northface) place!
