Young Malaysian Artists: NEW OBJECT(ION) III – 23 Feb – 22 May 2016
I could say that seeing a culture through the eyes of the youth is a pretty accurate depiction of how things are, or at least how they are supposed to be. The youth has something that we (young) adults might not have anymore: a deep sense of wonder. Fresh eyes. Out of the box thinking. Creative thought process. Yes, and these young malaysian artists have captured and catapulted that kind of vision into their works of art! Truly impressive set of gallery that can be found inside the world famous Petronas.
These young curators, talents, and visionaries showcase their own interpretation of their lives as a Malaysian, in Malaysia, as a citizen of the world. It’s inspiring to say the least. Inside the Galeri Petronas, where art is for everyone, the entrance fee is absolutely free. The YMA (Young Malaysian Artists) is a group focused on collective visual exhibitions of fearless experimentations of ideas. The theme this year is called the New Object(ion), which is derived from the Dadaist and Surrealist art movement of the 1920s – defying conventional ideas of art. As an Asian myself, I am completely blown away by the magnitude of talent that these Malaysians showcased through their art. I have never underestimated youthful creativity, and this is another example of why it is so. The emotional reflections being portrayed through their arts are unmistakable. Definitely, a must visit!
