Putra Mosque, Putrajaya: Standout Pink Mosque in Asia
Religious places are always a source
of inspiration in one way or another. There is seemingly some sort of sacrament
of confirmation that is happening whenever I visit a place of worship, no
matter which denomination or place it is. One of the most inspiring places that
I found that could rival the masterpieces found in Turkey, India, and Brunei is the Pink Mosque or the Putra Mosque / Masjid Putra in Malaysia.
Putrajaya's famous pink mosque
located on the edge of Putrajaya Lake in the heart of
the city next to Dataran Putra. It is named after the first Prime Minister of
Malaysia, Tungku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj and combines Middle Eastern and
traditional Malay design elements in its architecture.
You can clearly notice the rose-tinted granite; the basement wall of the mosque resembles that of the King Hassan Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. The mosque consists of three main functional areas - the prayer hall, the Sahn, or courtyard, and various learning facilities and function rooms. This is one of the highlights to see when visiting Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia because not only does it emphasize the devout side of this striking nation, it also underscores how talented these Malaysians are in creating such architecture.
