Medieval Yet Beautiful Photos of the Cardiff Caslte, Wales
Let’s talk medieval. I’m kinda lagging behind here doing all the daily
posts. Actually on a long trip right now, and doing some quick check with you
to see if you’re doing okay too? Okay, goin back to medieval, cos we all know
that this modern world that we know of as today needs some throwback history
love.

In case you haven’t noticed or wondered, for most of us Asians, palaces
and temples are the norm, but never the castles. Castles are always the
inaccessible ones, the unreacheable, the unheard of in Asia. So the first thing
to do when visiting Europe? Castle-checking! It’s as good and as (almost) cultured
as trying out escargot?
Castles are pretty neat, especially if it’s easily accessible. Cardiff Castle in Wales is the single most definitive castle that’s not only medieval and a Victorian Gothic revival mansion, it also is located in the heart of Cardiff’s city center – hence, a smashing deal. Easily accessible, yes.

It’s history dates back 1st–4th centuries AD, when it was first used by the Romans as a defensive location. It has a Guest Tower, an Arab Room, a Chaucer Room, a Nursery, a Library, a Banqueting Hall and bedrooms for both the Lord and Lady’s during the medieval times. Nowadays, the castle has been used for Welsh cultural and social events, such as various musical performances, including by Tom Jones, Green Day and the Stereophonics!
Once inside the castle, the details found in the Arab Room and the Banqueting room are superbly genius. Excessive detail and style, which are so good. Royal Welsh, nicely done yes. The Georgian main range, depicted in the mid-19th century can still be felt once you see the castle grounds. It doesn’t feel too overvisited and you could still sense the history and stories behind the place. Must see, the Clock Tower by Bruges.
Could easily spend half a day at the bare minimum just to stay here and explore the history. Different strokes for different folks, for Asians, it’s all palaces and temples, but for Europeans castles were always a thing. Now, what if Asians have our own version of castles – what would it look like?
