&Sons Italian Resto + Bar, Cross Street

Happy hour cocktails and chill every night band are the royals at the &Sons Italian Resto + Bar, an established stop-off along the Cross Street. The &Sons gastro bar is Chinatown’s go-to area for some hedonistic and laidback dining experience. Does it live up to its hype?

The place is the sort of experience that’s best with the lights dimly lit, quiet and casual. The bar seems to be opened for multicultural bartenders wanting to work in Asia, and for young and classy customers who are more passionate about what goes in the glasses and the plates more than anything else. The cocktails and Italian foods are the highlights here - all superbly made and sophisticated.

Of decent value, though it’s mostly small plates good for a group of three to four. Pasta choices like iberico pork and truffle paccheri are as good as the ones in Rome. The homemade salami, like smoked kurobuta pork lonza are a must try. They’ve got a wide range of cocktails, signatures, Italian wines, beers, and more – and with good deal happy hour choices. Though the resto bar chose Italian as its underscored cuisine, the ambiance and the rest of the overall &Sons bar effect makes the bar like an easily universal favorite kind of choice. Does it live up to its hype? It’s not an escape kind of night out place, but rather, a better option than the easily appealing bar-club scene in other areas of Singapore. Yes, indeed, hype or no hype – a good choice to come back to every so often.
