Timbre @ The Substation, Armenian Street

Timbre @ The Substation, hidden somewhere along the recesses of the Armenian Street, is more than what their “music of oasis" guise should be. This hangout spot is the perfect night out hideout for the much needed chill-music alfresco abode, with the rest of your buddies of course. Sink a drink in this den and spend the happy hour evening with the rest of Singapore’s homegrown talent of music.

The Timbre bar is located directly at the opposite of the Singapore Management University. Just walk in a grafitti-filled alley a few steps from the school and you’ll be greeted by this almost huge parking lot and woody style façade. Doors open at the strike of six in the evening, just in time for early happy hour, and just before the music scene gets lit up like a dream.

True enough, Timbre at the Substation is one of Singapore’s best concealed live music scenes you’ll find. It’s along the central area, but it still manages to cocoon itself into this secret den of music and respite. It’s an open-air and full-of-space full-of-air kind of scene every night. Lots of chairs, lots of electric fans, lots of human music fans. The happy hour choices and food fare selections are congenial to choose from, complements well with the type of music being played. Must try: The Half & Half Pizza, Chicken Wings, Nachos Beef Salsa

Just because I live-breathe-seek music in my life, doesn’t mean I am biased about these kinds of places. But I can assure you bros that from the moment you walk in here, you’d know the place will make you chill-happy. The music choices that you can pick here are brilliantly interesting. Homegrown talent FORTHEWINYES! And the food is fantastic for sharing. And that service! The Timbre is a special place and most locals know about it, so for budding locals and Singapore culture lovers, this is a good right-of-passage for you. Plus a bottle or two! Recommended for: groupies, school weeknight chill, young execs looking for really good local music
