Places in Albay, Philippines: Things to Do & See
Legazpi
City in Albay, Philippines, the time
has come and now we got the chance to do a formal meet and greet. I’ve been telling my friends here
in Singapore that the Phils has so many natural and good looking places to see
and enjoy, and it’s just a matter of time that Singaporeans will discover how
inexpensive yet priceless going to the Philippines really is. The Region of
Bicol is one of those places worth going to right now. Chinese New Year perhaps?
Any time this year is good, for as long as it isn’t rainy season and the clouds
are clearer than crystal.
Mayon Volcano or Mount Mayon Renowned as the "perfect cone" because of its
almost symmetric conical shape, lots of local folklore refering to the volcano
being named after the legendary heroine Daragang Magayon (English: Beautiful
Lady). To most Filipinos, this is something we are really glad to be having in
our country. To most adventure seekers and travelers, this is a dream
destination because not only do we get to enjoy scenic landscapes, adventure
awaits in the lava trails, caves, waterfalls, and wild seas surrounding the region.
Christmas holiday last year was spent here with the whole Filipino clan, and immediately
upon landing at the Legazpi Airport, we were blown away by the sign of the
cloud-striken yet still gorgeous Mayon Volcano. Setting the bar high, yes – to
think that it was just half of Mayon we saw, we could probably blow away the
clouds covering the volcano because of our gawked mouths of awes.
Then there are all the other
scenic places to see, things to do, and nice spots to hang around here. Here
it’s all about lava walls, sunken churches, and typhoon or volcanic eruption
misadventures. Exciting stuff, I tell you - Sharing with you a dirty list of
really wet pictures of Legazpi City. Yes, cos it literally was wet, for the most
part – it was raining and it made the Albay adventure even more so animated.
Please try to imagine strong typhoon like winds, ginormous cumulous clouds, and
sporadic rainpour scattered around the city while on a family expedition. It’s not the most welcoming of year-end holidays, yes - but
it's more like being in a NatGeo episode (and a death-defying one at that).
And yes if you ask me, I like those kinds of adventures once in a while.
