The Tastemaker Store, Havelock Road
The Tastemaker Store
The Tastemaker Store,
hidden in some unassuming and quiet neighborhood (read: old estate of Bukit Ho
Swee) along the Havelock Road, is one of those coffee café finds you’d like to sit down, go to their Facebook page and hit the
like button immediately. If there’s a Uniqlo café, it would probably look like this – it has this simplistic basic and white taste, the rest is left to your mind’s inspiration. A big plus too because everything kinda almost wreaks Korean style inside the café (though the food is mixed) and if you haven’t had coffee yet, you might actually think you’re in Seoul when you step inside the coffee shop.
The Tastemaker Store is at the ground floor of
Blk 22 Havelock Road. From the Tiong
Bahru MRT Station, it’s a good ten minute walk. No big and important
landmarks to check out within the area, so better use google maps to track the
Tastemaker down. When you reach this place though, it’s not so difficult to
identify, because truckloads of Korean and foreign visitors flock the entrance
and check out the store from the outside. Two seconds after, all’s inside the
Tastemaker Store – so best to get going and enter without apprehension, once
you reach the cafe.
The square store got a lot of trinkets going
on, you just have to notice once you settle down here. Sip a quick cup of
quaint coffee and order some brunch food to go with that and the rest of the
café serenity will loquaciously reveal itself. Nothing
fancy, nothing exorbitant, just favourites. They offer Singapore signature favorites too, such as Kaya
Toast, Lemoncurd Toast, Fruit Jam Toast. They also have Ham & Cheese
Sandwich, Egg Mayo, Hot Dog Bun, and Pizza. Must try: Mocha, Matcha
Latte, Belato.
Even if some may say that the food choices might be slightly mediocre, I still think that the Tastemaker Store’s consistency when it comes to keeping things basic and clean is well achieved. If you’re looking for that ordinary weekday break that’s carefree and easygoing (good choice, especially if you’re ultra stressed), one that’s not too commercial and too crowded, this is the neighborhood hideout for you. Recommended for: small groups with big talks, idea sharing session place.
