La’ Coffee Cafe, Rangoon Road
LA' COFFEE – Farrer Park
Even before it has officially opened, the
minute I saw the signage La’ Coffee along
Rangoon Road, I knew it’s something to look out for. First off, being beside
the famous Old Hen café,
you’re bound to rub elbows with a café powerhouse; you’re bound to get a good
start – and with a whole lot of inventiveness and patriotic passion, mixing
Singapore’s signature old coffee favorites, such as the Kopi-Os and Teh Tariks,
with newfound ideas, like the Ang-Moh Noodles (which I think is ingenious, for
name’s sake), you’re bound to get a hit. Traditional Coffee served in a modern
atmosphere, yes.
From the nearest MRT line, the Farrer Park circle line, you’d have to
walk less than five minutes. If you know where the Old Hen Coffee Bar is, even better. It’s literally beside it – with big bold
coffee colored letters and wall to wall glass entrance. Rangoon Road cafes are
rampant, yes. If you happen to go here in the early afternoon, you’ve hit the
sweet spot of café hopping siesta on this place.
If you’re a local and you see that this place
offers both traditional and modern local favorites, you might get turned off –
‘cos you’d think you can get it in any Kopitiam
out there. Maybe, true. But. Where’s the modern café hopping patriotism in
that? Here at the La’ Coffee café, their approach is pretty straightforward and
supportive of the Singapore’s local local almost forgotten coffee favorites.
They are doing their part to make it a little bit more interesting and current.
You’ll like their taste in menu selections as well as music reruns being looped
inside the café. Must try: Loti, La
Coffee Wings, Café Au Lait.
There’s still a long way to go for the La’ Coffee Café but being supportive and participative of their efforts is a good experience to check off your list. Passion counts for something, and doing something about it – just like how the ultra friendly baristas of the La’ Coffee do it, counts for so much. Here’s a coffee shop in Singapore that you can watch out for. Recommended for: expat business meetings, bringing foreign friends to try out local coffee drinks, unassuming catch ups with friends.
