Rouse Café, Dunlop Street
Rouse Café, Dunlop Street
Raw, rustic, and haunting,
the Rouse
café along
Dunlop Street is an addicting Muslim-owned coffee find in side of
Little India. It gets its coffee limelight from its dark and unfinished feel to
everything inside it – from quality coffee selections, good food fares
presentations, and overall hipster mood, fit for locals and visitors. It has
the right kind of edge that arouses café hoppers here in Singapore – would you
want to lose yourself here?
From the Little India MRT
Station, it would take at least 10 minutes of walking to get to the 36 Dunlop
Street. From the outside of Rouse, you wouldn’t immediately notice it is open.
The theme is like a garage-kind-of-rundown.
Good thing first impressions don’t last though in this case. Inside, it’s a
completely different kind of epic. Best time to go here is during weekday early
evenings, when the kind crowd is there but not too much.
The unique unfinished style
and wooden everything sets the coffee house mood in a completely relaxed state.
I could see myself almost falling into a
trance by just sitting and chilling inside this coffee place, maybe because
of the setting, but probably because of the friendliness of the staff and the
quality of coffee I got. It’s sweet-toned, with some layered complexity to it.
There’s a syrupy mouthfeel to it too. Must try: Brunch food, Shroom Shroom,
Crab Cake, Flat White.
Whether it’s for brunch or just for all-out letting looooooooooose, Rouse coffee house is a good place to get all the relaxation and chillness that everyone’s seeking (but haven’t exactly found it yet). I don’t know, but I feel the sudden urge to revisit the place again. This’ll probably be my 25,731,784th time I visited the place. Lol. Recommended for: third dates, after-office hideouts, weekend meetups with foreign friends, local lunch outs.
