Le Café Nyatapola, Bhaktapur

Le Café Nyatapola, Bhaktapur
The other night I was talking to my younger bro
about this thing about travels. Short travels versus long travels - which is
better? It was an endless arduous insightful conversation… which eventually ended
up talking about coffee shops. Yes, that looooooong of a story. The proverbial
question of the talk that reminded me of Nepal: do you really get to meet people in coffee shops in foreign places?
Answer: Yes – I’ve seen it happen in Le Café Nyatapola
in Kathmandu, Nepal.

What an unbeatable setting the Le Café Nyatapola has.
It’s out in the square at Taumadhi Tole, in Bhaktapur,
The Café tables are set on the balconies of a historic pagoda temple,
overlooking this gorgeous postcard-like view of Bhaktapur. It’s where you’ll
see a glimpse of the tallest temples in all of Nepal and a sneak preview of the
Kathmandu Valleys and skies. Best view would be right outside the 2nd
floor, facing the street view during sunset afternoons.

From erotic carvings on its roof struts, to Nepali,
Chinese, and Continental food fares, the Le Café Nyatapola is one of the most
tourist-friendly, yet local-centric kind of café place in this area. While
sitting in, drinking their local coffee, and having some snacks, we could see,
just across the table, a group of Chinese travelers eager to speak in English
and eager to make friends with everyone in coffee shop, including us. Everyone
was friendly and extra chatty during that afternoon, and I don’t know if it was
because of the spectacular venue, or the food, but the place is just too
gracious to all of us. It’s really a nice café hopping experience here in Le Café Nyatapola.
It’s got to be places like this one that makes the whole coffee-travel tandem work. This is a place recommended for long hours to rest, relax, and meet new people. A Bhaktapur experience would not be entirely complete without a stop here. Short travels versus long travels – no one should care if you find a place like this one!
