Old Hen Coffee Bar, Rangoon Road

Electric fans and old hens will be at the bottom of my list if I think of a café theme, but the Old Hen Coffee Bar along Rangoon Road managed to make it work so nicely. Brilliant creative team! It’s one of the newest chicks on the block, and it’s already making big coffee impressions in the local scene. Who wouldn’t want a cold brew creamy white and a nice feel good throwback playlist to keep you company? Yes, we’re all guilty.

Literally less than three minutes of walking from the Farrer Park MRT Station. The coffee place is just in front of the Urban Lofts. It’s located at the Rangoon 88 building, which is a new one. Best time to go here: weekend late afternoons, when the crowd is not so much and the atmosphere is just spot on cozy.

Dissected electric fans turned as light displays, ash gray white-washed walls, white-gray-black chairs, a steel teapot with red and orange flowers and an old hen display somewhere in the background – the Old Hen Coffee Bar is one of the interesting new cafes that has opened around this side of Singapore. It’s petite in size and charming in character. The coffee machine and the oriole beans says so much about how much the staff are dedicated to making its customers happy with their coffee. And it shows – with the way they engage with people. Must try: Cold Brew Creamy White + Red Velvet Cake.

Old Hen is the name because probably coziness is the name of their game. A lot of locals like this place because it’s one of the coziest quaint coffee shops you’ll ever find in Singapore even if it’s small and still starting. The crowd here is mostly local yuppies and oldies wanting some good bonding time and even some solo reading sessions. And you should add the fact that they have the best coffee shop music playlist that’s not too corny and not too hyped – think: U2, Bon Jovi, The Fray, Boyce Avenue.
