10 Most Favorite Reasons Why You Should Write a Travel Blog – Backed-up by Travel Experts!

At this point, I may have written a close to 10,000 words on this blog, roughly around hundreds of published posts, and a few hundreds of tweets and unpublished ramblings. Why do I do it? That’s the very same question that got me thinking just this morning, while having a morning kick from my cappuccino. Isn’t traveling more than enough? Why write about travel some more? What’s in it for you?

But then again, I’d say this is just the beginning and I’m fairly a newbie when it comes to traveling around the world. There are so many more experts out there that are just inspiring to read about and emulate! Why not get some feedback from some of the world-travel experts out there.

Here are ten of my most favorite reasons on why you should not only travel the world, but also share them through a travel platform.

1. You can share your experiences with the world

Whether you choose to write a personal travel diary updating your experiences while you’re on the road, or a more practical, informative, and useful travel blog, you’ll have the added benefit of sharing your experiences with the world. Okay, chances are you won’t get heaps of followers straight away. Yet you will be able to share your experiences with your friends, family, and past coworkers still stuck in an office.

2. You remember more

Writing about a place and studying your own photos helps a memory stick in your mind and you find you you’ll remember it in years to come. I find that if I don’t blog about a place I can barely remember it a few years later but writing everything down helps it to stick in my memory.

3. It’s for the love of it

Do I have a responsibility to others to entertain or represent a particular viewpoint? Not at all. I only try to be true to my own beliefs and thoughts. If people like what they read, they’ll be back. It’s getting a bit like having satellite TV with 400+ channels where people channel flick and you have a fleeting moment in which to capture their attention. That lack of inhibition is what I enjoy most about blogging.

4. It’s Challenging - and Fun!

Sure it means I work harder, for less steady money, and that I’m kind of mean to myself sometimes. But it also means I get to pursue projects that interest me, come up with crazy ideas and put them into action, and write all freaking day long (okay sometimes I hate that bit-particularly when I’m up against a deadline, but mostly I love it).

5. You Get the Chance to Meet Different People

It has allowed me to meet some great people and interact with other travel-lovers out there and, at the end of the day, it has fulfilled its original purpose(s).

6. It Can Bring Some Good Travel Freebies

A good ,well written, travel blog will get famils for various attractions. A famil is a free visit to a chosen location, theme parks, hotels, aquariums, almost anywhere that tourists visit. People are much more likely to try something if they read great reviews of it from a blogger they trust who has been there recently. An ad just stuck on a website won’t have that same appeal. We have been very successful with this on our travels. Certain places are more open to the idea than others and it pays to approach the more generous companies.

7. It motivates you to keep Travelling

The best way to maintain your blog is to keep travelling. Alastair says the trick is to visit interesting places and do unusual stuff when you get there: “Convey enthusiasm. Be different. Wiggle around until you find your niche. Travel well, write well, be different. The rest will follow.”

8. It can inspire you to Write a Book about Travel

I wanted to explore in my book why travel is so beneficial, the types of experinces you can have whilst travelling and how it can change your life. “A book can transform lives with more impact and more ability than a blog post.”

9. It lets you to look for Something Unique

There needs to be a take-out from every story. Something that compels them to do what you’ve done because you’ve managed to capture something that lures them and they’ve also learned something.

10. It makes you take things Easier and Better

Life isn’t black and white, so don’t expect your blog to be, either. Not every experience will be all bad, or all good. Not every vignette in your life will be perfectly poetic, or entirely disastrous. If you want to be real, include all the details, even the ones that don’t fit with the narrative. 70.Laugh at the fact that you’ve said, time and again, that you could never write a book. But here you’ve written a novel’s worth of posts, day by day. Just something to think about.
