The Marshmallow Tree, Telok Blangah Drive

The Marshmallow Tree – A roasted marshmallow and coffee place
The Marshmallow Tree at
Telok
Blangah Drive is one of the promising HDB-turned-café gems in the café
culture scene now. Having a marshmallow tree as a centerpiece and inspiration
for a coffee shop may seem to be an unlikely contender as the best coffee shop
right away, but there’s something so fibrous about this café that makes a lot
of young café hoppers want to experience it. To have a late afternoon coffee
with a baby marshmallow tree right in front of you, who wouldn’t find that
curiously interesting? Of course, seeing that marshmallows remind me of fireplace
and camping way back school years, it’s time to put these mallows to the test.

From the Telok Blangah
MRT, you can reach this coffee place via ten minutes of walking. Just cross
the foot bridge, dodge a few pillars and hawker centers, yes you’re there.
There’s this huge wall-to-wall glass entrance with a huge marshmallow tree… I
mean, marshmallow tree letters as it’s signboard. Even from the glass walls
outside, you can take a peep show and see the easygoing touches like the faux
grass, the wooden swing and miniature marshmallow trees. The best time to go
here would be midafternoons to early evenings ‘cos it’s not too crowded and you
can easily enjoy the place all by yourself.

Sky painted ceilings, a freedom wall, movable lampposts,
calming music background, and mini-mallow trees – these are the things that
will take your café experience into a novel kind of relaxation. It reminds me
of cafes that you can find in Seoul, because the details are neatly and resourcefully
fixed. The coffee and marshmallow combo is a good one, considering that people
are so accustomed to having mallows as a solo piece. Their coffee drink has
just the right taste to mix with their marshmallows and even some desserts. No
wonder there are a lot of young couples, groupies, yuppies, and local families with
youngsters hanging around this area for as long as they can. It’s like camping
in a café.
If you’re looking for a weekday afternoon reset because your boss said you weren’t good enough or because your social life decided to be irrational one day, just head to the Marshmallow Tree to get that leisure fix that you so deserve. It’s like camping away from worries - the place is good for chill, dates, and hidden small gatherings and alone time. It’s hitting the refresh button one mallow at a time.
