The Best Coffee in the World: Sant'Eustachio il Caffe in Rome

A wise man once said that Italian coffee is a beverage without borders. It’s a fact.

If you’re like me and the million other people here in Asia who’ve been exposed to the Asian coffee culture for so long, and our attempt to fashion American, European, Australian, South American, or whatever type of coffee is out there, you tend to think that everything tastes as authentic as it’s supposed to be. It’s the same for Italian coffee.

Yet, the coffee in Sant'Eustachio il Caffe transformed my view about how an outstanding Italian coffee should taste like. And since 1938, this caffee masterpiece is oversharing opulent, sweet, and carnal coffee quality that you’ll want to be part of.

This family owned coffee shop by the brothers Raimondo and Roberto Ricci is located in the Piazza Sant’Eustachio. It’s still the same coffee shop and roaster that was born in the nineteen-thirties. It’s in front of the Senato della Repubblica palace, it is just a few steps away from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. A good find and a must go, yes. With a café like this, anytime and every time is the best time to go here, you can easily find it given all the amount of locals and coffee connoisseurs ever-present here.

Everything about this ancient yet relevant café speaks volumes about its quality coffee culture it has created for itself. From its over-the-counter-quick-and-easy “stocks exchange” kind of setting inside the coffee shop, down to its signature products like the Chicchi di caffè (black chocolate dipped Sant’Eustachio Coffee beans), Tartufo al caffè (chocolate truffle with coffee), and Bacio (soft chocolate kiss with Gentile Hazelnut from Piedmont and black chocolate), the Monachella (Le Nostre Specialita “Calde”) is just out of out of this world – borderless perfection. The flavor of the coffee just consolidates in your taste buds, and rings on and on in a very long finish.

Right now, I find it difficult to enjoy other coffee orders as much, after having a good sip from the Sant'Eustachio il Caffe. Everything else seems or starts to fail in comparison, and it may take some time before I get to find another good one like this. The Sant'Eustachio il Caffe is an Italian Coffee Meca, and it should be added to everyone’s bucket list when in Rome. It shares more than just quality & coffee; the Sant'Eustachio il Caffe shares a sip of the best thing this world has to offer.
