The Time I Finally Became an Olympian

That Time I Finally Became an Olympian is at Athens
Never in my wildest dreams did I aspire to become an Olympian. #excuses A president, an astronaut, an elephant in Africa, maybe. But, never an Olympian. Growing up as a kid, of course you tend to daydream about the future and about almost anything you can possibly think of. You just come up with all sorts of explanations and excitements on your “when I grow up, I want to be” moments. But then again, that was way back when you haven’t learned or heard about Hercules, and all the formidable icons related to Olympics – i.e. Greece and Sports Supremacy. Yes, that’s the only time you’ll start thinking about becoming one.
And of course, it’s not something that easily goes away. You forget about it, yes. But split-second recollections of your past wants, no matter how completely unheard of it may seem, you still tend to remember them when time permits. That’s what happened to me when I finally stepped inside the first Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece: the Panathenaic Stadium.
Minutes-upon-minutes of flashbacks of the childhood memories came hurrying in. I was listening to an English audio in the background, while watching two young kids with their dad running around the Olympic stadium, cheering for each other, supremely unaware of the historical value they are in, and that they are creating for themselves. They weren’t Olympians, but their laughter and family escapade were prized moments, like Olympic winning streaks. It was a precious site to behold.
I became an Olympian that moment. Well, sort of. History was made there and we're making history by just being fully present in that moment in time. By taking pleasure in the very fact that the place withstood the test of time. By being thankful of the fact that it took me two decades of toil and effort to reach this far. By hoping that the greatness found in this place will be passed on to us from here on out. Cos when I grow older, I still want to have these kinds of flashes of wins, in travel and in life.
