Vondelpark: Discovering the Most Relaxed Side of Amsterdam
The last thing you’d like to do in any travel is to miss out on
the relaxation part. Whether it is travel or tour, there always should be a written
bylaw saying that some sort of relaxation should accompany the trip. And no,
that’s not for the old, brittle, and lame. It should be a staple for every
wanderlust out there. Initially,
I’ve refused to believe the value of rest when seeing new cities, simply
because it doesn’t seem right at all. You need to see every corner, you need to
maximize the time, you need to juice up all the money you paid by going all out
with the walking and checking out every place.
But
then over time, that’s when I found out that I had it all wrong, and that yes,
you can enjoy and absorb more of the experience even when you’re in a relaxed
situation – whether it’s just chilling, or standing in a spot for so long, or
just plain people-watching – it should never be considered a time waster,
but more of a time pursuer. There’s less stress, less adrenaline, less
quick decisions; but there’s more awareness, more calmness, more room for
appreciation.
The
Vondelpark
in Amsterdam is the most
perfect reminder on why it is important to include some sort of laidback item
in one’s travel. Originally known as the Nieuwe Park,
this public urban park has an average of at least 10 million visitors every
year – so much people wanting to enjoy some sort of relaxation. There are just
too much stress-free spots here you can enjoy – a fantastic place to run, to
walk, to take photos, to watch lake ducks, to bike, to skate, to bring kids, to
sit, to read a book. Emblematic buildings surround it, yet it still manages to
exude a very calm atmosphere. They have an open-air theatre, a playground and
several horeca facilities where
people can casually go and spend more time. When in Amsterdam, go Dutch-style,
and do take some time off - spend it here to get a whole lot of relaxation.
