Cups n Canvas in Selegie
Seeing art is always stimulating, even at its most basic fashion. But since it’s practically everywhere, sometimes, no matter how stimulating it is, you get tired of it. But dang it, Cups n Canvas did an impressive job in putting the inspiration back to art. Yes, what better way to get heightened by art, than through coffee - it’s everything that you’ll ever want to have in a café, at least in my book. Cups n Canvas at Selegie Road speaks a thousand words, because of this rousing café vision.

The Cups n Canvas café is located in an area that’s way far from being an art scene in Singapore, and quite far from its nearest MRT station, Little India. It’s a good ten to fifteen minutes of walk. Considering that it’s all about art and coffee, the facade isn’t exactly like that. It’s toned down compared to how it is inside, so it’s almost not recognizable. I nearly missed it. Good thing though, there’s a give away – the huge CUPS N CANVAS ambigram-like signage right outside its glass door.

Once inside, it is like finally finding the friendliest art cafe in this city. All is accommodating, from the art down to the bricked walls. It reminds you of the cafes you would normally see in TV series, where the protagonists would usually have their coffees while reading a book and waiting for a their cue to save the day. The art scene here compliments the cafe scene. Not too complex, not too high end. It’s like the hipster, indie, contemporary type, which of course is a default favorite. Add that to the caffeine fix you find here, you’re bound to stay for long hours. No wonder this is the hidden go to place of people who would like some alone time and for couples who would like some quality time. The sophisticated casual approach of Cups n Canvas makes it a stand out for a distinctive type of coffee lovers. The place can morph from classy to casual so it’s one of the best places for first time meet ups or i-want-to-impress-you date kind of late afternoon. Don’t forget to appreciate one cup of coffee and at least one canvas of art.
