Drury Lane Café: Anything but a Theater Royal
Drury Lane Café: Anything but a Theater Royal
The Drury Lane Café in Tanjong Pagar is far from being like the Theater Royal in London. You may have probably heard or seen the world famous Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, which is third and largest theatre to stand in London. Here in Singapore, it’s one of the many two story cafes in Tanjong Pagar. The closest association it can get is thru its name, and probably thru its red façade entrance that’s similar to a red telephone box. Other than that, the Drury Lane coffee shop is a still standout on its own, seeing how this nice place transforms into a full house of coffee lovers, all enjoying the specialty coffee and uninterrupted chill.
The Drury Lane Café in Tanjong Pagar is a good ten minute walk from the green line Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. Best time to be here is during weekday after office hours, when the only comfort you can get is a nonchalant environment, with specialty coffee picks, that reassures you of a great night ahead. There are so many coffee places that flock this area and Drury Lane is one of the easy favorites; it’s easy to get to, easy to find a seat despite being too crowded, and easy to pick a choice cos you won’t go wrong with any of it. Find that wide windowed place with a red wooden door and a sign that says: Drury Lane: OPEN.
At first, the café looks compact if you are unaware of the spacious second floor hang out place. Though, the first floor is pretty interesting cos it sure seems like entering into a friendly unfinished laid-back art gallery, with mirrors and interesting trinkets to look at from every corner. Check out the coffee culture wall that they have, a witty way to display all the coffee inspirations, picks, and randoms that they have at their café. You can see the passion, you can see the appreciation – even more so from their baristas who would gladly offer good words on what coffee to try out. The crowd seems to agree too – so many groups of local and expat yuppies just having a good time over cups of brown, black, white coffee and some all-day breakfast food.
The coffee place is recommended for chill, dates, study, planning sessions, and after office gatherings. Likewise, interesting to see how the counter here is wide open, very welcoming. You can see how everything is prepared, from hot froth coffee art up to the very last detail. You can even see how the cups are being embellished with the Drury Lane logo. The Drury Lane cafe brings everything closer to the coffee enthusiasts and even the interested onlookers, which most cafes seldom do here in Singapore. This adds another reason to make this coffee shop an easy favorite and a standout hangout cafe.
