Unlock the Luck in France: Paris Love Locks
Paris Love Locks
If you think that in this day and age, Paris is already way past
its longstanding city
of romance kind of gusto, all you have to do is walk around the Paris
bridges to see how it is being displayed in full lockdown. Paris’ lock bridges
are one of the many evidences on how this city is still all for romance and
romanticism. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this concept, it
actually is being done in other countries across the globe, even in Asia, like
the one I saw in Japan. Once in a love lock bridge, a couple may write their
own names on a padlock and locks it onto the bridge, throw the key into the
river as a symbol of their undying love. Talk about hopeless, talk about
romantic. Yes, both.
In Paris, the locks can be seen on
two bridges: Pont
des Arts and Pont
de l'Archevêché, and there’s a difference between the two. Pont
des Arts is for one’s committed love, while the Pont de
l'Archevêché is for one’s lover. Either place one lock or lock it on
both bridges. Now, thing is –
reality sinks in and sometimes love fades away in ways that only two people can
understand… hence, at one point, the love locks are unlocked, or are wanted to
be unlocked. Of course, this is kinda impossible, given that these are Paris’
favorite landmarks and the keys are actually sitting pretty down in the
riverbed. But, some brokenhearted couples take it too seriously, and they
return with bolt cutters to try to chop off the padlocks, or maybe even go down
the river to find the keys. Crazy love, baby. No matter how it goes,
no matter how times change everything and no matter what happens, love locks…
at least Paris agrees. Cue Burning Bridges song here, oh yeah.
