Only in France: Arc de Triomphe in Paris
Arc de Triomphe in Paris - When Rain Got In The Way
I have a flood of flashbacks on when
rain gets in the way of our travels. So many, different cities and different
intensities. Here in Asia,
it’s practically a fundamental part of our daily existence, the
unpredictability of having some sort of rain in a day is quite predictable,
especially in South East Asia. Here
in Singapore
alone, if it’s not humid, it feels like it rains during the afternoons almost all
year round. In the Philippines,
we get typhoons like regular rations of supplies. Of course, with this, you
tend to get so accustomed to it that you know how to work your way through it,
no matter how different the scenario is.
So, when rain got in the way of Arc de Triomphe de
l'Étoile in Paris, almost everyone else
faltered back, except for the Asians. Lol. Seriously though, when the drizzle
started falling down and the gray clouds enveloped the whole afternoon skies,
there seem to have no workaround at this point. The Arch de Triumph monument
turned from a lively landmark into a melancholic scene, similar to a French post
war scene. It’s a distinctive sight to behold, one that’s almost never
portrayed in travel books and websites. It’s a dampen view of the historical
masterpiece, and somehow along the way, it slowly created its own workaround
for itself. The Triumphal Arch held a distinctive kind of graciousness, amid
the pensive surroundings. The four arch’s pillars stood tall, just like the
history they bring. The details of the
sculptures got more highlighted by the dripping rain it had. Overall, the Arch
de Triumph turned out to be a travel triumph after all. Rain may have gotten in
the way of things, but it sure added a different spin on how things were
supposed to have been seen.
