Why Become an Official Bystander in Zürich
Why Become an Official Bystander in Zürich
Traveling to a new city and don’t want to spent too much money finding out more about the city? Next to airplanes and airports, trains and stations are the easiest places to know more about the culture, people, and city. It’s as raw and as real as it can get. Right in the middle of the daily action. Plus, you don’t have to spend too much, you don’t even have to enter the train itself. It’s the best place to be a bystander.
Flying to Zürich, one of the things I looked forward to is experiencing this part of the city. This is what happens when you read too much travel takes on how good and interesting European railways are. You’re anticipation and expectation gets so puffed up to the point that the mere sight of a train logo makes you… jumpy. And needless to say, this first train experience in Europe was nothing short of extraordinary. Took us more than an hour to get from point A to point B with a distance of approximately one hundred steps. Ridiculous. Hilarious bunch of Asians, yes we are.
Zürich sets the bar high in terms of train and station supremacy. You should go and see Zürich Hauptbahnhof, one of the best you’ll ever find across Europe. It is the largest railway station in Switzerland, and in fact one of the oldest railway stations in Switzerland. It connects to other European countries such as such as Germany, Italy, Austria and France. Also, Zürich HB is one of the busiest railway stations in the world. From the old school tracks down to the clear cut trains, well-ordered system, and overall mix of people and structure – it’s like being in a classic movie scene. Grab a cup of coffee, and find your spot in a quiet corner and let Zürich’s trains and stations do what it’s good at – let culture, people, and city life unfold right before your eyes.
